Hi all last year while I was on holiday on the coromandel I was walking down the beach at the end of sailors grave road and I noticed a shiny little rock in the sand I have no idea what it is it has some sort of metal in it

My son found a 'nugget' like that - on the outside it had a faint yellow tinge but it was in fact a silvery grey colour as you describe. He found it a mile down a stream from a construction site so we decided in the end that it might have been a nugget of aluminium which had been acted on by the forces of nature, tumbled and rolled to look like a nugget as it was carried year by year down the stream...he never did have it checked so no one knows as yet for certain...but at a rough guess maybe it is a piece of aluminium that has been pulverised to look like a gold nugget - the photograph show me what looks awfully like a gold nugget though...and I cant help but think 'Hes having us on'

I have dug stuff like that. My guess is that when you throw aluminium cans in a fire you get little nuggety blobs some of which have a gold coloured coating.

i would go for aluminium, people have fires on the beach and throw in their cans which melt if they are on the side of the fire. sand acts like a retort for the molten alloy.
