Was originally going to hit the beach with the last of the big tides.
Slept in for the 4am one and enthusiasm was lacking on surfacing at dawn. With the recent heavy rain decided would probably be pretty much the last chance to hit the grass before it gets too dry.
Quick call to a permission I've been sitting on for too long - He thought I'd forgotten.
As if I'd forget about a virgin permission(!)

Old house site at back of a large rural section. Lotsa nails and rusty tin from the house so cherry picked for first visit to get an idea of where things were lying.
Only coin younger than 60's was a dollar, but I hit just about every year from 1934 through to 1951 - I suspect this was alongside the main path to the front door as the bulk were in a linear orientation from the old road alignment to the house.
Little bit of trash dotted around, but out of the Cinzano and Gordons caps came a turn of century Ching Dynasty coin (decipherable only as far as Chihli Mint as very rotten). Goes to show, never can tell.
VF 1934 half crown was a nice surprise - been a very long time since I had a big silver.

Hope the rain continues for a few days though. Many deep twitchy signals that I had to ignore to maximise the first sweep in limited time.

Day Two
Another 2 hours after work.

Cherry picking mode tonight tuned out the scrap and returned another beauty '34 Half Crown, and a couple of smaller silvers.
Penknife was a nice surprise while the pile of pennies and ha'pennies continues to grow...

Gotta be something good in there somewhere if there's this much chatter on the top!

Bulk of coins coming from 5cm, just under the turf.

That half crown is great, and the little silver thrupences.
I love that key.

Surprised you only found that little bit of trash.
Though I'm after gold, this inspires me to do more coin hunting.

One advantage of rural - less trash (but less goodies too)

...We are all secretly after Gold :) Just that we pass the time in between "WooHoo!s" pulling coins and pull tabs !

Its the old story Wiggle. Once you remove the trash, then the good finds really start to appear.

I'm not after gold- I'm looking for the coins. Though a gold ring would be nice. Still. Would love to find as many pennies as you. Only found three! I find so many decimal coins... And about ten nails to every one decimal... And two cans to every one nail... And five pieces of foil for every one can... And then two pieces of lead to every foil and so on....

That's good to know, I found a few 150 year old parks that were VERY noisy & gave up. I'll persevere when I next return. Thanks

So Wiggle you use some Iron Reject, does that eliminate pennies & other coins?

I have mine off when in parks, as the aluminium is as common if not more.

Can't wait for Aluminium Reject mode - that will be a great leap in detector technology.

Gold pandemic- minelab might be working on that because on the go find 40 you can disc out alumium but it still disguises itself as gold...

All interesting coins are picked up, only clips out the modern clads - for which I have no interest.
The odd few I pick up get belted with a hammer to remove the warts, then exchanged in a machine for a can of Red Bull or similar.
