In the water late this afternoon and got a good hit in the headphones. Out came this ring in the scoop that from the outside looked like copper, but gold on the inside and felt like gold.

Got home and sure enough the marking on the inside is 750 (18 carat) and weighed in at 20 grams +.

It has the NZ manufacturer name on it so I should be able to trace the owner without to much trouble as it looks like a one off.

Now that what I call a ring. 2nd Au this week.

Nice chunk o' shine there :)

Just a point though, something like this would likely have been claimed on insurance.
If you personally trace the original owner and return it (noble thing to do BTW) they will have "double-dipped"
- I've encountered this a couple of times.

Personally, I'd lodge it as found property with the Bobbies.
That way, if the owner has claimed on insurance then it goes to the company who paid out and now legally own it.
If not, and they can't trace it, then in 3 months you get to add 20g to your rapidly growing stash.

Some would just melt it down and sell it, buy a new detector or something. But i wouldnt know anyone who would do that.
