Well tried a bit of coin hunting due to nugget difficulty (I can't seem to reach top of that waterfall after climbing 400m sheer bush slope).
Found many targets, only dug on the ones my pointer reacted to before I turned earth.
Rewarded with:
Aluminium pull tab & bottle cap, rough 5cent, spedable 20cent, beer cap.
Tried to dig deeper with my garden trowel & broke it :)

Did not expect to need my mattock.
And reluctant to go deeper than 20cm.

How deep (& wide) do you dig?
Also where do you get that solid looking trowel with the serrated side I've seen in many video's?

Metal kiwi- Detectnz sells a very nice digging tool. It also is a handy bush knife too I was using mine last weekend to plant native seedlings and also to chop kindling for the campfire. Also dug a few coins too.

Well I've given up on coin hunting.
Other detectors have display numbers to distinguish foil from coins.
Unless my GPX makes different sounds for different metal types?
(I'll do some testing with my hoard of junk).

I was using iron reject, heck dug a 70x70cm hole to extract a pull tab.
You'd think the new (new being after 1990) pull tabs that do not completely tear away would stay on the can!

70x70! Man, gotta learn some pinpointing skills before you hit the grass!
If I make a hole bigger than 10x5 to pull a 10c from 15cm down, I'm having a bad day.

I don't know about the GPX, but coins will give a solid, repeatable tone as opposed to 'flakey' foil.
Although if this is the coil on your machine, I'd be chasing that guy in Christchurch for your money back - It ain't a Minelab.

(The Chinese writing and "Miner Lab" is a clue)

And the tabs do stay on the cans, it's the idle fingers fiddling away that remove them - I'm one of them.

Google translated the chinese too, it means something a long the lines of High Quality Electronics. :D

Had some people seem very interested, then they see the chinese writing and give me a funny look (as if they are thinking: "uh, oh. looks like a piece of chinese crap, no wonder he's only finding junk!"
