The Reserve Bank today announced that under the Banking Act 0f 2015, the possession of pre-decimal currency is now illegal. A recent article on " Fair Go" about untouched Bank Accounts, that if no action takes place for ten years. Then the account is terminated and the monies are forfeited to the Inland Revenue. Bought about a review of the Act by the Reserve Bank. A spokesperson for The Reserve Bank, said, that the bank now considers lost pre decimal currency is deemed to be a deposit. Whether it was in the Bank or in the ground. It is a known fact that some people bury their money. And under the Banking Act of 2015, we consider that, as making a deposit, and therefore an earthly non interest bearing account.

We are aware that Metal Detectorists have been making illegal withdrawals from these accounts. And some have built up substantial hordes of pre-decimal currency. The main culprits appear to be based in Christchurch, where they have been over the years actively intercepting these accounts. Mainly from the "Bank of Hagley Park" and other provincial Canterbury Banking Parks.

We are aware of a New Zealand Detecting Forum, where these people are posting pictures of their illegal withdrawals. As they use nicknames or internet nome de plumes they are difficult to trace. Three have been isolated as being the main offenders. One we call " Silver Eric" another " Chrispy the Half Crown. And the third culprit is known to us as Number8 Thrupence.

These people should be aware that their activities are now illegal as are their hoards of pre decimal coins. They have the option of surrendering the coinage to the Reserve Bank or facing Prosecution.

We have also placed undercover Reserve Bank Investigators in various Historical Parks and recreational area's throughout New Zealand to stop these now illegal activities. Some are equipped with Metal Detectors, so as to be accepted. And then where bye they can obtain cell phone numbers or addresses. We have also deployed Coinage Sniffer Dogs, which can smell an illegal withdrawal or possession of any illegal coins.

All our undercover operatives are equipped with Night Vision equipment, and radio frequency electronic detecting equipment which can register the signal generated by a Metal Detector from up to 500 metres. Any offenders apprehended shall automatically have their detecting equipment siezed and their vehicles. Which shall be forfeit to the Crown. And then face Court Proceedings under the said Act which carries a fine of up to $200,000 dollars or ten years imprisonment.

Bloody hell, I knew our Government was eager for more money, but this is just bloody ridiculous. What next. I shudder to think. Hey Chrispy the Half Crown, best you lock away the Etrac and get the Gold Bug back out again if you want to do anymore detecting. Bet there is gunna be lots of good stuff real cheap on " Buy Sell Trade" soon.

OK..... So I wouldn't be surprised if the above was true but I can only imagine that you had too much spare time and wrote up a wee yarn. Tell me you are joking. If the above is true why wouldn't it extend to decimal coins. Next a government will come out and say it is illegal to own gold and recall all privately owned stashes, oh wait thats happened before.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

You guys have a bit of time up your sleeves. The Banking Act 2015. Section 32 (a), doesn't become law until April 1st 2016.

I tried to have a look but there is just not enough time in the day to sift through all that dribble.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Darn you Mr Hatter, you've blown my cover!
I have been working here in Christchurch as secret government funded NSA operative, tracking and following the movements of the said two assailants know as Silver Eric and Half Crown Chrispy. I was within days of a major pre decimal hoard bust, based on intel gathered over many months of tracking. Because of your thoughtless actions Mr TH, my deep cover is blown, and it will now be immediately necessary to start a series of dawn and dusk raids in order to stem the flow of per decimal withdrawals from the Bank of Hagley.
Be warned Silver Eric and Half Crown Chrispy......your every move is being watched and you will be busted.

Buggar Number8. I never knew you were undercover. Frig somebody will answer for this. I promise you. I hope they do not harm you. Best you do a dawn raid tomorrow. As Chrispy Half Crown is apparently heading to the Buller tomorrow, to plunder our pre decimals, and oh my god with my Etrac. But little does he know, it is not just any ordinary metal detector. It has a secret GPS system built into it, along with a very miniature go pro camera. Once I get my hands on it. I can download all the data, and we have him. So he is done and busted. No motor home for him tomorrow night. Its the cells and Court on Monday. You better concentrate on Silver Eric, then we have busted the ring. Took some time, be we will have got them at last. It must have been very hard planting all those silver pre decimals, over winter, cold nights, rain and or frosts. But you laid the golden, well silver trail, and entrapped them. Well done. Nothing like a bit of entrapment. Our world awaits us. North Island, Bay of Islands, Wellington here we come. See nobody knows what we look like. We will of course have to change our user names. I could be " Gumboot and you could be " Sheep Dip" kinda goes with number8wire. But of course we are just laying a false trail. Oh its gunna be so much fun catching some of those non south islanders.

Chrispys great Buller Adventure this weekend came to a sudden halt just after he went through the Engineers Camp on the Lewis Pass.
A major fault in his vehicle, steering or the cs joint failed. Chrispy did a wander across the road, before he bought the monster under control.
Now on a Flat Deck from Hanmer heading back to Christchurch. Luckily his crayfish for tea was only half thawed, so back in the freezer. His Saturday night tea of Red Deer Minced patties, luckily was still in the freezer. Awaiting his return. His cut lunch for tomorrow, ham off the bone and Ploughmans bread, and or a tomatoe or cheese and onion sandwich, and a banana and two maderins, I guess I will have to scoff myself. And glug the Simpley squeezed orange bottle. I hate it when a plan goes all wrong. The good thing is Chrispy is alive and well. Could have been far worse.

Luckily he has Insurance which entitles him to one tow a year. Bet from the Engineers Camp back to Christchurch would cost lots of half crowns.
And our Buller Treasure is now safe for a while. Its been there since 1860, so a few months won't hurt. Mmmmm every coin will be pre 1860 or thereabouts,

section 32(a)
Bank may provide settlement account services
The Bank may provide settlement account services for financial institutions on such terms and conditions as may be determined by agreement. This includes all pre decimal coins found by or hoarded by individual/s from psychic dowling rods or lucid dreaming states.
