That's a really interesting bit of information.
I remember seeing Carlaw Park - it looked like a very nice sports ground.
As for detecting, that report says it was built on a rubbish dump - bad news.

There are so many places that would have been good to detect - but they've been built over.
Wish I had got into detecting long ago.

Quay Park - Now Vector Arena is over the top of it.
Triangle park at North end of New Market next to roundabout - now paved over (mostly - hehe I might try the bushes!), it was a bit scungy.
Western Springs Stadium hill - they now have concrete terraced seating.
Whangarei Townbasin - now heavily paved over.

I'm sure others can name many more.
I bet none of these places are detected prior to renovations - all those treasures lost.

Let me know if you guys hit any of these locations - it would give me peace of mind to know, someone had a look.

(As you know, I'm a bit of a Rogue, I wouldn't be adverse to detecting over pavingstones - & pulling a few to dig underneath :) )
