I expect the rewards to improve the further I walk. I realize these bits are pretty pathetic compared to the pictures from the South Island, but hopefully they demonstrate that there is gold to be found if one looks for it.

I am intrigued by the two small red pieces of 'sand' i the photo - I assume that it might be cinnabar sand is it? As for the gold - It looks as tohugh it has eroded out of a reef within the very close proximity of where you are working and I am sure that it would warrant very very careful and close inspection of the surrounding country side.

My son discovered an amazing reef with gold in it similar to what you are finding but still in the quartz - very soon I understand that the adjacent land owners are going to remove my key to access the back of our property through their thus ending the 'Good neighbours policy' - at that point I hope to give the exact grid reference for Google Earth so that any person can go and examine this reef for themselves as the removal of our key will herald the end to that 'good neighbours policy' - no one can legally stop them visiting this reef.

Would love to know what the red sand is - I am curious!

There were a number of reefs worked up this particular creek.
If I return to it, I'll keep an eye out for this red material. If I can get a larger lump, I'll take it to John Isdale at the school of mines, for his expert opinion. It is obviously fairly weighty, otherwise it wouldn't be there.

Shame about the neighbours. Better get the dozer up there quick, while you still can.

Having been inspired by JW stumbling over lumps of gold wherever he seems to go and Lammerlaw displaying buckets of gold able to be retrieved from every tiny crevice, I thought I had better get out for a look.

Went to a tiny creek I hadn't been to before. Buggered my back on the third shovel full, but finished cleaning out the depression in the bedrock. These few specks came from about 1 square foot of bedrock, so at least there is a bit of alluvial gold up there.

Hi Gary. Good on you mate. Well done. Bugger about the back. I know that one all to well. If I bend over a suction nozzle all day sucking for gold it takes me a few days to get over my buggered back. At least with detecting you are standing straight most of the time.

Went out to a new area today & only managed one little bit. Little being .08 of GRAM

Finally managed to get out for a bit of a stroll up one of the local creeks. Since I was last out, the hills have become steeper, the bush is thicker and the rocks are heavier, but I still managed to find a little bit of colour.

Nice pics once again! Those silver bits sure are interesting. It would be quite a novelty to get silver in the sluice/pan.

I think the silver pieces are in fact silver. They exhibit the same crystalline structure as the gold and, unlike most of the other streams I have been to, I have seen no evidence of mercury in this little creek.

I went for a pan up a local creek and hit the mother load, for me anyway, my biggest panned nugget, of 0.11gm, bigger than most of the gold I have been panning, lots of fine gold the size of the ironsand,if only they were flakes I would be doing ok. Also some small silver flakes as gjj109 describes. Love the big quartz boulders in the creek if only I could take them home and crush them.

Good on you Pete. Well done. Nice to see some Coro gold finds. Thanks for sharing. You just panning or using a sluice box as well?

Cheers

Good luck out there

Hi JW I mostly pan, but have a sluice, and a gold bug pro, last time in this creek I tried the gold bug and thought I was going to deal to the gold, but didn't get onto any, plenty of rubbish down to tiny remains rusted nails etc, probably remains of old timers sluice boxes left in the creek.

Well done Pete. Some nice bits of Coro colour sitting in that pan. They are good sized specks for this part of the country. Looks like a nice little stream too.

I went to one of the larger creeks south of here on Friday. Scratched a couple of buckets of gravel from a crack and managed to get a bit of dust in the bottom of the pan.

Went for a wander yesterday with Peteatpapaaroha.
We were heading for a secret spot up a Coromandel creek, so secret even we didn't know where it was and it's still secret because we didn't find it.

Had a bit of a pan and threw a few buckets of gravel through the sluice. Got a few colours and this little lump. 0.32g, which is ginormous for this part of the country, until we find something bigger anyway

Cool guys. Well done. Nice little Coro slug, & no quartz attached.

Good luck out there
