Hey guys thought I'd write a wee story about my conquests with my new detector. I got it on the 3rd of June this year for 800 bucks and what do you know as of Thursday it has payd for itself already! I took 10 percent of the current gold price for impurities and whatever and came in just around 800 bucks. On top of this ive spent probably more time out looking for "treasure" than i have spent looking for gold. In the last week i have got $80 in gold coins and 2 silver rings over 3 hunts of around an hour each. I estimate that i have probabaly also found around 40 silver coins (pre decimal with actual silver content i mean) a 9ct gold ring and a couple of kg of lead. Moral of the story- Im bloody happy. Moral of the story #2 - How many top end minelabs pay for themselves this quick?

Good Luck

Hatter

PS I'll put some photos up later today once ive taken some
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

OK that does it, no more web surfing today, I am heading out with the detector. I will report back this evening with how much loot I pillage from the local treasure troves... probably will not come close to madhatter but I feel obligated to try.

Yeah yeah of course you have to add the fuel to the equation but the local park hunting costs bugger all, in fact i walk to a few of them. So i recon that the detector has still payd for itself plus the fuel costs which at this point may have been around 200 bucks. Still a profit in it at the end of the game. As for expensive gold in bottles.... Back when i first started out with a pan and shovel i usd to get a few colours that weighed basically nothing, now that was expensive gold! Also the fuel costs are bloody high but the gold price these days is pretty bloody steep too, 73 bucks a gram at spot price!

Also id own a minelab if i had the spare cash.....

Hi 1864hatter,

I've just uploaded a test photo no probs - think it must have been a temporary glitch with the server. Please let me know if you're still having issues.

I can see the error logs from your previous attempts though, so there was definitely something not working as it should have been.

Cheers,
Gavin

OK, afternoons tally was 106 coins including a silver six pence, a 1885 penny, a US quarter, and $54 worth of one and two dollar coins. Pretty good day all in all.

As far as the gas goes I don't think you should figure it into the equation. Unless you are doing it just as a source of income, it is a recreational activity. It is no different than going tramping or bird watching or whatever. So any money you make while recreating is pure profit.

Thats a good haul for one day. Our best so far is about 40ish coins in one day.

Well, what I did is turn the sensitivity down a bit and the discrimination up above the pull tab range. Then I only dug good signals. I am sure I missed a lot but I covered a whole lot of ground and didn’t waste much time digging junk. I counted and I only dug up 30 something pieces of junk so I was hitting coins (or something interesting) about 3/4 of the time. Plus I was out for about 6 hours.
