Hi All

Lyell Creek has been hit pretty hard over the years. Not much basement until you get up around where the Alpine United Stamping Battery site was. And thats a bit of a walk. There is or was an alluvial bank there that was untouched in the old days, as it was the battery site. But its pick and shovel work. Murray Creek is a bit of a problem due to plenty of Stibnite being in the creek bed. Stibnite is the ore of antimony, and it sounds off like gold on a detector. Hence cant be tuned out. It is not a hot rock, but an ore. Most Reefton creeks carry fine gold, but hard to find basement unless you get up to the headwaters. Better off with a sluice in Slab Hut Creek on the Recreational DOC Licence. But then gold of course is where you find it. Happy Hunting and keep us posted.

Yep. Get in there and have a go. There's still more to be had.

The main river up by Andersons flat is where the public area is. However the whole river will have gold in it, as you will be able to tell if you go for a wee walk around.
