Hi all,

I have a theoretical question that has been puzzling me for a while. Say you have a VLF metal detector with a coil diameter of say 40cm . Are you able to have multiple metal detectors (controller+coil) placed next to each other on a board (with enough offset) ? or would they interfere with each other and cause false readings?

My guess is yes you can place multiple metal detector on the same row with a big enough offset but not sure if thats right?
What are your thoughts?

Thanks guys :)

If the Detectors are running on the same frequency, you will get some problems. Much like EMI . Electrical Mechanical Interference.

Hi Trev, I see.. what about connecting them in a row and only enabling one at a time but switching it quickly ? like the following

(1)....(0)....(0)....(0) then (0)....(1)....(0)....(0) then (0)....(0)....(1)....(0) and so on ? so there isnt more than one coil ON at the same time? reckon that would work?

thank you

And why would you want to do that. Theory yes. But of no application I know off. or are you just having a what if moment.

Cant see it working myself, you would need a meter or two gap between the detectors at least.

For the record, one day i was detecting a beach when my detector (ace 350) started falsing or playing up. Couldnt figure it out till i looked up the beach some 30 plus meters away and there was someone detecting with a powerful PI type machine. The closer he got the worse the falsing got so i had to shut down till he went. Seeing was believing.
