Hi all, this is my first post as a new member so forgive me if this has already been asked.

I recently read about gold "sniping" online and it made me wonder about how often people get crook after doing this. The water quality in a lot of NZ rivers has apparantly gone downhill a fair bit over the last few years (I won't point any fingers). So I was wondering how many of you guys get sick with chest infections etc after doing a bit of sniping. I spend a fair bit of time in rivers fishing but seldom get fully submerged, and the last time I went for a swim in a local river I ended up getting a chest infection a few days later which made me think a little more about the issue. Anyway just curious to hear your experiences.

Ah one more question, are there any negative health effects from using detectors? Apparantly the detectors they use at airports aren't meant to be the greatest thing for you. Not sure if they are similar though.

Hey Gingerbreadman,

I was tempted to point the finger actually, but being a new member and not knowing how many dairy farmer gold enthusiasts frequent this forum I thought I'd better tread lightly lol. Also being a fisherman is probably another reason not to agitate anyone on here, I imagine fish and game have frustrated a lot of prospectors in NZ.

Ha im shure i wont ruffle any more feathers than havent already been ruffled on that subject....it,l be interesting to see what happens over the next year or 2 weather these improvements that seemly have been made to farms actually make a difference to water quality.
personally i think farmers of today "some" out of haveing to have highly intensified there farms to a maxium of evrything from drainage, fertaliser, water, stock and when you get all of those combined x however many farm,s ther are on the same river system well it,s not rocket science to work out were it all end,s up!!
It,s not just farmers shure there are other culprits but i think it,s the modern day farming that has tip,d the scale,s so fast.
I see there,s an outfit in nz wanting to realese african dung beetle,s in paddocks ther would need to be a few to keep up with all the cow s#@t over the country lol.....probably another introduced species disaster looming!!!
thats my 2cents worth anyway :)
