Here's a mystery from the family archives:
One day during WW2 my half-sister in Nelson lost a "silver goblet" at Tahunanui Beach. I have no idea why a child would have taken it to the beach, but years later my (late) mother remembered and verified the incident.
In about 1992 an article appeared in the Nelson Mail about a metal detectorist from Stoke who found a "silver goblet" at Tahunanui Beach.
I have contacted the Nelson Mail, but their 1992 archives are not yet digitised. The only hope is Nelson Library, which has microfilm copies.
The cup supposedly has my sister's three letter initials engraved on it. I'm a bit shaky on the mathematics of permutations and combinations, but 26*26*26 is 17576.
Does any of the above just possibly ring a distant bell with somebody?
Thanks! - Mike
