you can only use hand operated tools in publicly designated areas unless you spend very large amounts of money or can find someone who will let you on their claim so sorry its not that simple to just go where you like and do what you want.

So I can use sluice without pump? Ofcourse I can't do everything I want , I just don't know the laws there. Did I need some documents for using hand operated tools in public areas?

yes you cant just go into a public river etc and fossick you must have a permit to do that and it cost alot of money ,the easy way is to go to one of a few public fossicking sites that you cant do this for free ..but only with hand tools etc sluice ,pic, shovel, pan, crevice sucker, buckets you know :)

heres the web site of the rules etc

Thank you for the information! Are there any gold left in these public areas for hobby sluicing?

October is a good time but the water will be cold. if you are camping it will be cool at night. not usually too busy in the public areas that time of year. if you want to do it in warmer weather leave it until late November/early December.
