And it says its an ex fossicking site , but still its cheaper than some but i dont know why you wouldnt just claim your own bit of land wouldnt that be far cheaper?

According to the crown minerals web site its still a fossicking area claim due for renuall 2016 . it looks to me to be the part of the river from the main road bridge to the buller river but i could be wrong.

The Lyell was very heavily dredged back in the 1980's & it produced some very good gold. You need to be very aware that many, if not all, of the worth while creeks & rivers have all been dredged & I would say a lot of the "claims" you see on trademe are people just trying to cash in & make a good quick buck on suckers out there who are all excited with the high gold price & think they are going to clean up & make an easy fortune.
It needs to be treated as a hobby because you are very unlikely to make a good living from dredging these days. It has all been done....

You are right Cavey, it is Lyell creek downstream from the bridge. The public fossicking area is upstream from the bridge. It's pretty deep, well washed gravel from all the sluicing that took place upstream.
