Welcome to keen folk. I am I think the only lady who is keen to be out and about. Would be good if a few more meet ups were organised. Anyway good luck

Yeah would be cool to start up a new club where we can meet up show finds and research places to go, only thing I'm concerned about is a heap of us detecting at once at one place could upset a lot of the public, so best I think to keep a low profile 2 or 3 on a hunt, depending where it is of course...by the way, has anybody tried the horseshoe lake reserve? I read that it was a cyc training area

Nothing wrong with having a club. I do strongly agree with Ericd about keeping a "low profile" even if that term bugs me as it suggests we are doing something wrong.
If you guys have access to some private property for sure tear it up (so to speak - not in practice) *8^)

Why not have a few members go to different places and show what they find at a later meeting?

I can honestly say that I have not met face to face a bad bloke from this hobby.
The people I have met from both sides of the paddock (if you get my drift). Have been exceptional people, even if for some reason, that my mind can't process there is an unusual rivalry.
To me the Detecting and the Gold go hand in hand, not insult to insult. ~shrug~

Anyways...

As much as it is up to the new hobbyist to learn how to do things correctly, us slightly more seasoned should be taking people under their wing if for no other reason but to protect the hobby.

I 2nd that, yes I don't like the term low profile either but in the eyes of a small minority we are doing something wrong, I was out a few weekends back where my mate was challenged by an elderly couple insisting that we should have a permit, we were in bushy scrub land and were filling our holes doing the right thing (wasn't a nice park or anything) so my mate pulled out a wad of trash and said " Permit to remove rubbish ? " they were speechless.

99 % of people I've met are really interested and if they have kids with them I usually give them a find like an old penny.

So hands up those to meet at Snowdrops place for the first meeting lol...Kidding snowdrop
