Found this 5" bronze spike in the Devonport area today. Ships were built and repaired there
in the early days so I guess that's why (duh) It is the first spike I have found that is new and unused.

Awesome find MK, truly a thing of beauty.
The imagination quickly drifts off to view the spike being dropped off the side of a dry docked clipper by a hard working docksider, whilst he's tentatively balanced on makeshift scaffolding along the portside.....

I remember a long time ago as an apprentice painter repainting the Devonport ferry terminal and they used the old wharf timber at the front entrance, I remember picking out old folded newspaper out the big cracks dated early 1900s, awesome find there's one for display cabinet
