Hi my friend has a gold nugget its one from one of those tourist attractions where you pan for gold in Queenstown area. So I tried to pick it up on the euro ace.

The nugget is about the size of a squashed .177 calibre air gun pellet.

The euroace wouldn't pick it up at all.

Even in pinpointing mode it would only get to 3 bars.

Would the small 4.5sniper coil work better on gold or is the euro ace just not a gold machine?

The Euro Ace is a coin & relic detector. Not a small gold nugget detector. It would need to be a sizeable bit of gold for it to give a signal. A gold coin like a sovereign or half sovereign would be more in its capabilities.

Good luck out there

JW :)

or it might just be that the gold nugget is a fake :-) I remember painting 177 slugs gold and throwing them in the river when I was a nipper.

Have a look at this, it explains it pretty well.
My shortened version is big = beep even if it's a hot rock, generally speaking the higher frequency the machine the better for finding small gold. If you are after gold you would be better to invest in another machine rather than spend your cash on a coil for the Ace. One of the weaknesses of the Ace is actually a bonus and that is the limited target segments most of us spend to much time trusting a NTID (Numerical Target ID) and as a result miss some cool stuff.
