A while ago my brother and I had found some nice gold at the head of a creek. We got about an ounce there over a couple of trips. With a bit of effort you can drop into the top of the creek to get to our spot. As you go down the creek it rapidly becomes a very treacherous gorge. Well I always wanted to go see what gold might have been hiding in the gorge. A mate of mine and I decided to have a crack at going down the gorge yesterday. We encountered plenty of waterfalls and had to use ropes to get around dodgy parts, even had to get up out of the gorge and skirt around one particularly nasty patch.
We found a few pieces along the way but nothing too exciting apart from a 2.4g nugget. I was detecting one particular patch of bedrock and got a good signal that turned out to be a nice 2.2g nugget. A short distance away I got a good signal in a crevice, a bit of scratching revealed 3 bits for about a gram. Scratching out a bit of gravel revealed that the crack carried on and more gold was found. We got out the cold chisel and crow bar and busted the whole crack out, we had a ball for about an hour pulling out little nuggets all over the show.

When we got home we had a much anticipated weigh-out and found we had a healthy 30.8g to split between us. The photos show a shot of all the gold we got and a photo of a good pocket of little nuggets as we found them.

You said you were going to make a contribution & you didnt dissapoint. Excellent......Very well done Matt & you were rewarded for your hard effort. That would have been a real blast & a good result too. Good on you. Did you retrieve your ropes?? Whats with the Aussie coin??

I did a bit of sniping yesterday in a flogged local creek....only manage 3 little bits sniping & one piece detecting. Wouldnt have been one gram total

Good luck out there

JW :)

Thanks guys for the encouragement. It was a day to remember.

JW, the coin is an nz two dollar coin! We did manage to retrieve our ropes with a bit ingenuity.
