for anyone planning to go to Goldsborough they have had a digger along the shamrock streambed. all the big rocks are in a windrow either side of the stream and a lot of branches down on the banks. might be ok for sluicing but didn't get much with the pan. water level is pretty low.

We we were there 2 weeks ago, water level was ok, mind you it was raining. (thats why they call it the Wet Coast we are told). Went 100m down stream and gathered some fine sand thru a collander and a sieve. Busy checking our results now and finding a little bit meaning 5 or specks each pan, which is fine by us. We are new to this and anything that produces colour is cool.

We also went to a spot down Fox way we were told about by a local and it was awesome compared to Goldsborough. You would have to kill us to find out where exactly. Didn't bring much of it home as we didn't have enough room what with all the paua and crayfish, travelling on motorbikes does have disadvantages sometimes.

the shamrock was dug up late last week apparently. think it might have been done for flood control rather than our benefit. someone with local knowledge may know better. hell I would have dumped the paua and cray to bring home gold. lol.

Hi, I was there for 2 days, had some luck in sluice boxing with some 20 odd specs, and then the rain came...will be looking into going there again soon, but would like to know other places close to Hokitika for sluice boxing. Any recommendations?

Actually there was a fair bit down in the riffles. I was working it hard and had a good old flow going down.
Ever heard the saying 'The harder I work, the luckier I get" !!!
