So last weekend I was out detecting and had a lack of finds, I became concerned when a half penny was making only a faint signal even when close to the coil. The detector also made a few funny warbles and refused to settle down. Basically I had to have the half penny touching the coil or I would not get a signal response from the detector.
I was just playing with it in the driveway and I can detect my phone from maybe two inches max.

Now, who is a detector doctor on this forum and would be able to perhaps hazard a diagnosis. I have taken apart the plug that connects to the control box but the soldered connections all seem good as gold. Could it be that the coil has leaked?

Thanks in advance
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Take it to your local electronic repair shop. Might cost you a minimum fee but they can test the coil and maybe
some other simple tests so you know how serious it is. The nearest Minelab service dept is Adelaide.

Good luck.

Have you been using the coil underwater?

Leave it out in the sun for a day, then try it again and see if there's an improvement. Or borrow another coil off someone and try that. :^)

I certainly have been using it in the water. The coils are meant to be waterproof. I have used it in the water since I got it with no issues.
Perhaps I need to track someone down with a coil I could try out. Or maybe a funeral is in order....

I know my coil is waterproof but im always uneasy about submerging it just in case something goes wrong ie. like theres a crack in it or something. Hope you get it sorted easily, good luck.
