Since the end of last year, I've been cultivating a relationship with a committee which have the Yea or Nay over access to a potentially juicy site. Up until last month it was all sweetness and light. "Just let us know when", "We would be interested in your finds" etc etc...

Today I got an email out of the blue that the committee had suddenly vetoed everything, for no (disclosed) reason and that I "will not be able to access the property".

I have replied stating that I respect their decision, but would like to know why it was overturned. Which after two weeks has been unanswered.
I'd normally try and present my case in person to the committee, but as they sit in Auckland, it's not practical.

I suspect someone has some misinformation about "treasure hunters" digging bloody great craters, or and this is the cynical side of me, that someone knows a detector who will be given preference.

Looking for suggestions as to how to get them back onside... I'd hate to lose this one.
This is a year's careful nurturing - don't want to go through it all again, and we don't have the choice of sites up here that the city guys do.

I'll buy a beer, or invite them along, for whoever submits the successful idea.

I think I would phone them for an understanding of why the no.
It could be that someone on the committee has found there is some HPT rating for example or
perhaps an archaeologist has had an input. If you know the real reason you will know how to respond.

That's my thoughts anyway.
Good luck.

Sounds like no was there obvious anwser as they have no guidelines as too warrant a yes. Or basically they don't want to be responsible for saying yes incase some issue arrises which they have no control over. Something like that.
