Lets talk about Metal detectors!!!!!!!

As most if not all? persons seem to be awfully confused over what is quite a straight forward line of thinking.????
What is a metal detector? Of course the answer is, that its an electronic gadget that detects metals through the use of bashing a radio frequency through a transmitter coil into the metal object, and back into a receiver coil of wire. Simple really!
This transmitter is “JUST” a coil of wire. Its not rocket science by a long shot, but the world has used this simple method for as long as it can remember, and it still works fine, and keeps all the planets aligned fairly straight too. “Nasa” would be lost without its guiding role in this feat of metal detection.

VlF or Pulse induction????? Basically both these methods of detection are spawned from one and the same thing. Yes! The injection of a radio signal into a coil of wire!!!!!! It does not matter one whoot if the signal is fast or slow, because if there’s metal within the coils diameter, and its power pulse (transmission signal) across the coil is great enough to overcome a bit of depth then any metal under the coil will be picked up as a signal and sent to a sensory devise like a light or a speaker.(still bloody simple eh).

A VLF transmits at frequencies of what could be deemed to be loads of “Piddly” little signals into a coil, but has no real power punch to penetrate all that horrible ground that covers the better prizes.
A Pulse induction transmits each of its power pulses at a slower rate (frequency) than a VLF. “BUT” with the distinction of delivering each of those power pulses with dramatically more power received by the transmit coil. AND this equates in increased “DEPTH” of detection.

You may like to ponder that fact that VLFs transmit their signals by using the NEGATIVE - POWER BAND RAIL, I e THIS IS THE ELECTRICAL STUFF THAT SEEMS TO ORIGINATE FROM THE EARTH ITSELF.

“YET“. Pulse induction machines seem to originate their power pulses from the POSITIVE +POWER BAND RAIL!!! AND THIS IS THE ELECTRICAL STUFF THAT SEEMS TO ORIGINATE FROM THE SKYS THEMSELVES??????? And it seems that these discriminating features define the coils abilities to differentiate between metals and minerals etc, and depth.

Now you can pull this apart to your hearts content?

Cheers---Colin.

the last bit is interesting colin. i note vlf's (negative) are not prone to atmospheric disturbance like the pi's (positive), that does make sense. my beach detecting was cut short by an electrical storm many many many miles away. hope all is well, thanks starflash
