Hi
My name is Pascal Fortier, i mine during the months of April to October in Dawson city Yukon. Right now winter has arrived in Dawson and it will be all over canada in about a month.

Long story short I mined in California USA, Quebec Canada, Cambodia, Yukon Canada.
Visited the Laos, Vietnam, Alaskan, Nevada and Australian gold fields.

When I first got to Dawson city being a small town, word gets around quick, you get to meet everybody and get work fast. Is there any town in New Zealand where an experienced operator and miner can get work and learn the techniques that are particuliar to the New zealand mining industry? Or is all the industry is scattered all over the South island?

Thanks

I would say the largest concentration of Alluvial or placer miners would be around Hokitika on the West Coast of the south Island. There are quite a few other operations on the West Coast north of there and some in Otago but Hokitika would be the place to start. There are miners from here working in Alaska and Klondike most years, and some of your local contacts will know them, those names would be a good place to start job hunting.
You would need to have the right kind of visa etc too.
Sounds like a plan though, 6 months here and 6 months there - no winter!
Good luck NUGGY

Thanks guys!!! Much appreciated These are some very good leads!

As for the visa being under 35 and canadian I am automatically granted a one year work visa, as long I fullfill some really basics requirements. I think kiwis gets 2 years with similar low requirements also if they come to Canada.
