not quite the racecourse, drive in the camp ground main gate, head towards the racecourse entry and to the right are gum trees and big pines and a path, was just in there was the florin and other silvers, yes the rings were in the racecourse however, and most of the goldies as you would expect.
Keen to try more in the camp ground next

All this location talk begs the question...........Should we be so liberal with flashing around place and location names for all to see, such as is being done in this thread? Soooo many reasons why I believe this to be a BIG mistake. Without going into details, I've learned my lesson from doing this in the past.

It's absolutely up to each individual to call it how they see fit but using place names for all in sundry to see, WILL only cause the detecting community problems in the future. Remember....you have no idea WHO is reading this thread and taking notes!
Just a friendly warning to all.

Yes I think you are absolutely right with what your saying, I wont mention locations ever again.
Thanks n8w I can see how it would cause problems, I guess its the fascination of Christchurch history and what you find gives a story of what went on in the past.

All land is owned by someone, please do your research before assuming it's a free for all.
I'm still in damage control from a digger who blatently hopped a fence and screwed my private permission a couple of months ago.

Areas that are Wahi Tapu or similar are very sensitive, a spirit would be the least of your worries if caught.

More care please.

Absolutely agree with you 100 percent on the social history aspect of Victorian and Edwardian Christchurch....facinating stuff alright. If you read any of my posts, you'll see that much of my focus, research and effort goes into recovering piece by piece, as much of that lost social history as possible. Infact, many of the finds I have made may seem like old junk to some in our detecting community but to me and others like me, our past in what ever form it may take, is worth saving from the ravages of time and decay. It is with hope that one day, my kids and eventually their kids will be able to look back, to see and hold, tangible evidence of what life was like in Christchurch 200 years ago....not just in images online or behind glass in a museum.
As you can see, to me detecting is not just a hobby but almost ( at a stretch) a social obligation.....with the odd wee benefit of a bit of gold now and again!
By all means share your passion and facination for this incredible hobby of ours online but just be aware that not all people out there follow our enthusiasm and passion with the same positive thoughts and intentions.....hope that makes sense.

Hi there,
I just found this same type of toy gun (a little damaged) in my back yard while excavating for a chicken coop. The safety is missing as is the tip of the barrel. Any ideas further on the maker or rarity / value?
Thanks
