I'd say you've pulled up a cartwheel penny - should be very thick compared to most coins.
(Get the bronze fungus sorted quick though)

Yes it is quite thick for a coin. Cartwheel penny looks to be a match.
What method would you use to clear off the bronze fungus? I'm still really amateur at coin cleaning. Only gave them a scrub and a soak in grape seed oil so far. Some coins electrolysis but I found that too harsh.

Given the state of it, I'd go for the quick n dirty toothbrush attack, then chuck in the oven at 300°C for 15 minutes, and seal with wax while warm -rub it in well (candle wax should be okay if you can't find the proper microcrystalline stuff).

If there was any detail left, I'd recommend the sodium sesquicarbonate method - slow (as in a month or so to treat), but gentle and thorough. Google will show you the way.
