Well it all started with my Dad and an old dusty box in the corner.

My parents were moving house and I was helping out when I was told that I could have anything i wanted in the pile in the corner, I glanced over a whole lot of nick nacks and house fillers when a box with alot of dust and a bit of black plastic sticking out caught my eye, so I opened it up and couldn't believe my eye's, yep it was a metal detector.

So I asked what was wrong with it, I was told it either didn't work or he didn't know how to use it. So with that I found some batteries, turned it on and it showed promise, threw a 20c from my pocket on the ground and went over it, no good didn't pick it up, (I knew nothing about detectors). So i played with the knobs Vol. Disc. Tune and Zero having no idea what i was doing just randomly turning them i got it to pick up the 20c, so i tried a 10c,$1,Gold ring and it got em all.

Since then I read up on the instructions researched how they work and done a search of my section with awesome success, especially under the clothes line, coins everywhere! Now it's a bottom of the line cheap chinese detector but I am amazed at what i've found, Only 4 outings so far and over $100 in spendable coin plus a few silver rings, lots of older coins, pennies a shilling and even a british 1908 threepence. I'm loving it but i know there is so much more that im missing because i can go over the same areas and listen to the faint signals and still dig up coins, even those are only about 6-8cm at the most in the ground so there is sure to be lots more im missing.

I have the bug, it's so awesome to go out not knowing what i'll uncover and all the old coins interest me, the wife like's it too (because it finds jewelery) so thats a bonus.
I am hopefully getting a much better detector in the near future so i can do some proper hunting and get out onto the beaches, the one I have doesnt work well on the beach.

Once you have the bug, you will always have it. A mate of mine loaned me a groundhog detector years ago. He was given it but wasn't that interested in it. Had a load of fun with it on the beaches in Auckland and Waihi beach. The I got a Minelab Sovereign, then a Minelab Quattro and now I have a XP Deus. Have fun.
