In the UK visiting the relies and decided to have a wee detect in some local fields today with my old man. He was doing the swinging with his Whites DFX metal detector, I was doing the digging.

He knew that an old path crossed the field that's been used for 100's of years. Didn't take us long to find the oldest coin we've ever found detecting - a badly corroded 1757 George II halfpenny. Made my day!

Attached are photos of the front and back of the coin.

Wetting the coin made some of the details stand out a little better, but here's what a good example would look like:

Great 1700's find Gav even if it is a bit stuffed.
Guess we will just have to be happy with the 1800's here.
