Found a nice pocket, where each pan produced a similar amount of gold to that shown in the picture. Nothing bigger than 0.3 of a gram, but nice gold nonetheless. The white rocks are a good indicator for gold as they are heavy too.

Would your name be Sam? I think that spot looks familiar. If you are Sam I ran into you up a creek up the north bank recently
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Hi Matt, yes it is indeed. Not a lot of gold being posted up on forum since your move to Auckland.

Well done Sam. Nice to see a bit of South Island gold in a pan.

Haha that was a good guess! Nice gold. How many pans like that did you get? The white rocks are scheelite, tungsten ore. Would love to dredge up there in that spot, I think it's hiding some nice gold. Might get up there over Christmas break. Will send you a message if I do, could arrange a trip.

I got about a dozen pans like that with a total of about 5 or 6 grams all up with a bit of sluicing as well. Your plan for the xmas break sounds excellent, I'm always keen for a mission I will PM you my details definitely hit me up. Here's a few photos of pieces I found with the detector further up stream from that spot a while back the biggest bit is 2.3 grams. Last week I spent a couple of days detecting in a different area with a bit of success 3.9 grams over a couple of days all small nuggets some of them panned. The third pic is of a 3.4 gram nugget detected last summer and finally a cheeky 0.5 gram sunbaker.

Nice looking gold, the 3.4 grammer has almost certainly broken off a larger nugget. Would be worth going to find it's other half. I once found two one gram nuggets in two different days but same area. They fit together perfectly. Anyway, nice gold, will be good to catch up. Good going on finding gold in a new area, seems hard these days. You seem to have done well for not having had your detector long.
