I think what he and any other person (myself included) that goes detecting dreams of is a world where people got to the beach and just lose rings, other jewellery and maybe some nice old silver coins and sovereigns!!
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

and sinkers,sinkers are good,although dissapointing they are handier than bottle tops and hairpins :)

That's what I like about winter,no rubbish,and very few people on the beaches......but last summers lost goodies are still there waiting to be found.
