So I have 3 days off this weekend and a planned piss trip to Akaroa doesnt look like itl happen SO perhaps I'll blast away to the coast for some panning and sluicing up Westport ways.
Is the water temp significantly colder this time of year with the first snow? I just wear leather boots and trackpants, but perhaps time for some waders or wetsuit?
Anybody standing in the water for fun at the moment??
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

Depending on how deep, I have a loose pair of boots and wear a loose pair of 5mm neoprene dive booties inside, then use a pair of 5mm neoprene gaiters/putties around the top of the boot and calf... keeps me warm inspite of wet feet. The gaiters stop cold water circulating into the boot.

Dive booties / neoprene socks definitely make a big difference. For me it's more the cold morning - takes a while to warm up. And if you're in a gorge without much direct sunlight... brrr!

went to goldsborough a couple of weekends ago and feet weren't hard to keep warm even just in gumboots but hands were. water was definitely colder than a week or two earlier. might head over this weekend for one last try before winter sets in.

Cheers fullas, the planned booze up is back on-different location so the gold adventure is off, but does like like it wouldnt be too much fun in the water this time of year, even though thigh height is about all I do. Something to look forward to getting into again in perhaps four months time!
