We spent the Easter week in Whitianga, all the beaches had been hammered by the rough weather, and were looking real tempting for a detect,I hit Buffalo Beach within an hour or two of setting up camp, the conditions were just right with the beach dug out at the mid tide mark,i started to get coins straight away and found the first gold ring on day one along found 3 gold rings with a couple of silvers, over the next 4 days I found 3 gold rings, and several silvers, along with heaps of sinkers and around 170 coins of all types, about $70 of them were spendable, but the find that blew me away completely was the gold half sovereign dated 1846, bleeding heck I was completely stunned.after a bit of a breather I spent about 3 hours in and around the same area looking for his mate or mates......but it was not to be.....I was more than happy with what I had found,by day 5 the beach was reforming back to its normal state and it became harder to get targets.I sure was a happy chappie,it made up for the leaner times.

What a great story kiwijim. Who would have thought a gold sov out on the beach all alone (or was it? just kidding). Wouldn't it be great to know the journey it has taken to end up there.
Yeeha!

Thanks for all the replies, well my very best find is not a hard choice, although I have found some pretty good rings and some very old coins, without a doubt my best find is a 1903 gold sovereign that I found in Western Australia,We spent a large piece of last winter there in a small town called Gingin which is around 80 kms north of Perth,I had permission from the local pub owner to detect around the outskirts of the old hotel and surrounding area,I found lots of older coins, but darn near fell over backwards when I uncovered the sov, turns out it was minted at the Perth mint so didn't travel far.Man did I hit the VB that night.....hehe
