Hi guys, I had a pretty fun weekend just gone up in the Central Otago high country detecting for gold. I left straight after work & was up there detecting by 8.30 pm. I had decided to do a night detect. I got on to a small patch & managed 9 pieces that night. Biggest one is 2.5 grams

Gave it away at 1am & slept in my wagon. Wasnt the best of sleeps. LOL :)

Was back in to it by 8pm. Drove up to a slope. Got out of my wagon, rigged up & stepped away from my wagons influence on the detector. Dropped the coil to the ground & hadnt even completed my first sweep when I got a sweet faint signal.

Then a little quartz specimen piece

This went on for 8 little finds of gold

But that was the end of it. So I went for a long walk to a gully that I couldnt drive to. I came across this old timers dam & was blowen away by the shear effort they had gone to in it construction.

This is looking down on top of it. Gives you an idea of the width of the stone work. The gully goes from left to right. Notice how the material behind the dam is flush with the top of the stone work. I guess the oldtimers back filled behind it with clay & soil to seal the dam. You may also notice a bit of a water race coming out from the back right corner.

Sunday I headed to another spot & I wasnt doing any good. I had put on the Nugget Finder 17 x 11 coil & got sick of digging 1.5 & 2 foot holes for rubbish. So I put on the little 10 x 5 joey mono coil & my luck changed straight away.

Then a little surface dweller

Nice one John-no better sound in the world than that beep in gold country.

Good effort.

Awesome effort mate - love seeing your photos from detecting! Believe it or not - I'm just about to bring my GPX 4500 out for a wave next mission... found a creek with some very big flat flood gold flakes thrown up on the banks but the GB Pro was really struggling with the mineralisation from the bed rock / mineralised sand in crevices. Figured the GPX 4500 might give me the upper hand. I'll find out at easter ;)
