Hi all,
i am currently starting to mine my new gold claim in south westland with a 4" dredge and a small sluice box. with my sluice box I have been beginning to find nice gold below a gorge system at about 10 feet above the waters normal level. In fact i have begun to find small nuggets at this height which are about the size of match stick heads and nice larger flakes to the size of my finger nails. This river has a very large catchment and flood levels can become as high as six meters from what i see through the gorge. So finding coarse gold at this height, should i be looking down at the bottom of the river with my dive equipment around the beginning of the gorge or would the waters flow be to much during a flood to deposit gold? i have many years experience with dredging down in more flatter grounds of the river bed finding flood gold. but none when it comes to bedrock/ gorge gold? any1 out there with any experience with such mining your info would be greatly appreciated.

i have found coarse gold well above the water level where there are bed rock protuberances that cause the water to boil or become directed by swirls towards the side. This gold is obviously being picked up from the bottom with the gravel so i would be inclined to look on the bottom where the water flattens off or where the flow decreases.
