Found a very old .22 live round this morning, been in the sea for a while but still not entirely sure if the water would have sucked the bangy bits out.

All the websites found so far say, take to reloader/make one using empty cartridges etc etc.

...but I want this one, don't want a new shiny one.

Would boiling for several hours do the job, or is the primer more robust than that?

Or should I just bury it deep, below LT mark and walk away?

You want to keep the shell... the projectile or the whole thing?

With 22 bullets.. small rimfire bullets.... with your bare hands, you can try and bend where the cartridge and shell meet... keep working around until it is loose and it will eventuall fall out.

You could use plyers to hold the lead projectile but they will damage it.

key points... do not heat with flames etc and do not hit it.

try putting the bullet in a vice then tapping it on the end with a nail and hammer

LBD'S right, but to help avoid damage to the bullet you can wrap the head of the bullet with a thick fabric ( e.g denim) and then bend off with pliers. the thick fabric reduces the risk of the pliers "biting" into the metal. Then if the powder is damp use a wooden toothpick to scrape it out, Avoid using metal objects like pins. Replacing the bullet casing can be made easier by lightly sanding the part of the bullet that was concealed inside the casing when the round was complete, be sure not to sand too much as the bullet will become too loose, but this can be overcome if that happens by rubbing the sanded part with wax (crayons work fine) . Then just push the bullet back on the case. Again as LBD stated, do not hit it. Yes the primer may be live, but there will no longer be propellant to fire the bullet.

better put my disclaimer in now: Use this advice at your own risk, i assume no responsibility if damage(s) and or injury occur. :)

Hope this helps.

Cheers guys.

Well, I'm still in one piece! Shame the cartridge isn't.
Tried twisting it out and just tore the casing apart :(

Might try boiling the next one (similar method to that used by bomb disposal during the war)
Ah well, thanks anyway.

Cheers MK - There's a fair few hours in there though! Spent a few weeks solely coin shooting for goldies, now moving onto the silvers :) Gold still elusive as always though.

There is always one.....

You could throw it in the fire intil the lead bullet melts away and then the powder will be nice and dry as well, easy to pour out of the shell.

Maybe there are two....
