I personally like deep creek claim , but the wife would shoot me if I spent more on my hobby[ good job I don't care ] so tell me who if anyone would be interested to hire gear hut and claim for use if this was an available option , certainly would like feed back on this idea from members

I would pay money to hire someones claim just so I could run a sluice and have a play. I only get down south once a year or I would go in on a claim.

I think what this forum has proved time and time again is that with all the keen people out there that are keen to look for gold and get outdoors and all, there is a demand to set something up, on a smaller scale, that is similar to what is established in the US for gold prospectors. Surely someone must have the knowledge to legally set up a club of sorts that can recruit members, set some ground rules to abide by, and acquire and establish claims or rights to use claims.

Then again there are loads of DOC spots you can already work for free. If those aren't in the rights places for access why not look at setting up a new one of those are sort of gifting it back for all to use? Yeah, it would cost money and time but anything is possible if you give it a go.

having had a claim I found the red tape and the bush police were a pain in the bottom end of my back.

iy is a great idea for a group to go in on such a claim but the admin . who dose all that . as we are all human (some more than others) there will always be a point where one will abuse the system.

having said some negatives I still think it would work. $3500 to change over plus the cost of the claim. biggest problem is still the claim jumpers and hanger ons that want a free lunch.

true. the time cost of admin would be a fair bit plus costs of setting it all up. really would be a lot but how many people would be needed to make it work? sure people would try and take advantage. i reckon good camera system would not only make for good security but also be good to film any work being done - not only for peace and security but for others to learn for each person's mistakes, or what they do right also. you might even be able to use footage to attract people to view it on some site.

i don't know the ins and outs of the american setup but i'm sure that would be a good place to look and learn and adapt to no's ways. the big question is who can afford to get involved, who is better off doing their own thing, who can't be trusted and shouldn't be included, and who's skills are need for set up and running. and who really in reality are better off just making do with the set up of existing public location for hand held manual mining. Its a bit of a time thing really, would you be able to make it worth it after considering free days away from work and family, travel costs, lost days due to rain etc. and remembering if their is decent gold about it would cover some of the setup costs and running costs.

a feasibility study would be the sensible approach. but again - further costs to produce.
