A photo I took in 1984 when I got back home - this gold was all recovered in three handfuls of dirt over the period of half a minute - scooped my hand through the gravel three times - this is the result.
Unfortunately darkness had come upon us other wise the amount would have been a great deal more as the amount was doubled in a few minutes the next day we were there.

That comment just made me think back and yes indeed I do remember scooping both hands through the gravel to cup them together then reach up out of the water and into the pan which was right beside me on the bank. I think there was a thunderstorm and the sky was quite grey, no rain but thunder rumbling all around, It was just on dark and I had to get out before I got trapped on the mountain track and couldnt drive through the mud. The next Saturday I was back and doubled the amount. This was not all I got either as I had another fellow with me and gave him quite a bit so it is not included here - my share of the three handfuls was over 6 ounces.

Hi lammerlaw,
I bet you can remember every second of that moment!!!,I dont think that i would have got much sleep that night thinking what the morning will bring.
I remember a couple of years ago detecting late into the day,got a faint signal in the bedrock, broke it out and had 6 grams for the effort. There was still one hell of a signal comming out of the bed rock, had to hike back to camp for the night.Never slept that night.
First light headed back to unearth me fortune, over an hour latter of club hammer and pick i had a lump of lead for me effort,BUGGER!!
Great post Lammerlaw a bit of history in the making

I couldn't help having a laugh at the fact it was lead but yes I do know the feeling of expectation! Back in those days I did sleep well as I was getting a great deal of gold so nothing surprised me - I had many, many days for two ounces a day so was used to it...nothing really like that now - you get older and cant do what you used to do or get sidetracked by other things.
