To the person who was at Wilson's beach (just below Pinedale motor camp) today helping him self to gold from my gold claim.....
I don't recall any body asking me if they could be there.....Fortunately you are on one of my security cameras so I'm going to give you the benefit of the doubt this time only? however I would suggest you remove the 3/8 sieve you left there and the rope....I have put the sieve up on a stick for you against my better judgement!.

I am trying to make a living off the gold I get from that claim over the summer months so I guess it would similar to me stealing money & food from you!!!.

See, it's people who frickin claim jump that make it hard for people like myself who can't afford a claim to be given genuine permission to have access to claim owners land.
All that claim jumper had to do was just ask you Digger37 and you may have let that person have a go under the same condtions you offered to me (Thanks again for that, I will take you up on that offer one day, if it still stands).

Because i've taken the time to find out who the claim holders were and had the decency to ask a few people (and they know who they are, big thanks guys!!) I haven't been turned down yet.

I hope whoever was on your claim Digger didn't know better, for they may not even know about the paydirt or the crown and minerals web site or the laws.

down by the camp it could be anyone. the country is crawling with tourists at this time of year especially. A lot of Europeans see those bloody gold shows and get big ideas. either don't think about the likes of claims or just don't care about any laws here as they aren't applicable to them cos they're french, german or whatever. same sort of people that throw big rock slabs down off tracks nearly hitting those in the riverbed.
the local public area here i note doesn't actively promote the site, i presume for the reason of keeping hoards of them out of it. its the internet thats ruined most things. i remember a few years back one guy from Germany lived in his van all summer at the shotover, fossicking in his underwear in the hot sun every day, using nothing more than his plastic dinner plate and knife. talked him into getting some cheap gear from the warehouse - came back with a kids sand castle set! then stayed all summer and finally left after smashing up glass and dumping the summers worth of rubbish onsite. you learn who to waste your time helping or talking too. same guy told all his tight mates - by mates i mean people from same country he'd prob met in the pub - and they continued same behaviour. DOC ended up wasting money putting up a post and signing banning camping down there. i note the sign has now been pinched also.

good luck making an example of this person FossickFester. Judging by their tools and there ability to take them with them i think they were just playing around. bit like the muppets that have thrown all the large rocks back in the local. some people. if observant they would notice all past miners have tried to get the rocks OUT of the waterway, as the gold is IN the waterway. the more material removed, the closer to the gold you may get. A ban of weekend warriors i suspect LOL.

I stayed at the camp over new years. I went for a walk down stream with my metal detector until I sore the claim signs up on the bank. Its clearly marked !!!before I went down south I printed off some maps with the claims on it and made shore I didn't go on any claims. Some people! how far up the banks do claims go if you were just metal detecting? I wasn't shore so I just kept away

the only claim i ever seen marked was the claim above macetown on the arrow - a cairn and a sign. doesn't make it easy if someone has no idea and its not marked. you can't plead ignorance either if its marked. trouble is if its marked punks put just throw the signage youve gone to the trouble to make and spent money on into the bushes.

"how far up the banks do claims go if you were just metal detecting?"

Yeah jimmy i'd like to know that too...........................Anyone?

I like ya comment Simon on banning weekend warriors too, made me laugh, it's the Dredging Poachers that i really don't like because they can clean out someone's claim quickly and the way i see it, if they can afford thousands of dollars for a dredge, surely it isn't hard to get the money together for a claim also?

How far up the banks a claim go,s is up to the individual that is putting the claim in often in the summer when rivers a very low there is a lot of ground exposed and just because there isn't any water there doesn't mean its not claimed .

As far as I know the area of the claim is that shown on crown minerals permit webmap. Some claims don't even include water ways so the boundary of the claim has little to do with the river as such. So if a stretch of river has a claim and you don't have permission to be on it keep off it or be prepared to deal with rightfully pissed off claim holders.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Couple of points here...

1. Really useful post there Golddawg-good contribution to the thread.

2. If he was sluicing (and going by the fact he was using a classifier he was) he wasn't new to the game and as such should have known better and should have checked claim status.

A good tar and feathering should sort those claim jumpers :-) , or at least a good lynching.

I'm an avid reader and till now have failed to contribute anything to the forum (I do however use the permit map OFTEN)......but if it's ok with the rest of the lynch mob....can I be the guy that slaps the horse???
