Hey, if anyone on here is out on the Shotover River and has seen anyone removing the kowhai trees we have planted there can you contact me on 0272550470. We have been planting Kowhai under DOC's Project Gold scheme to reestablish them in the area and to beautify the area for all to enjoy. If you're local and have noticed your neighbour with some fresh untagged kowhai we would love to hear from you. We have an idea of the guilty party so we hope they are sleeping well tonight. We are willing to let the matter slide if the trees are replanted back where they belong in the next couple of days otherwise the police will become involved in this theft.
cheers. simon.

yeah, a hanging would set an example. wish the old day punishment swould return. i liked the one where prisoners got chained to a log as in arrow town in the era of no jail in the early stages of the rush. not sure if that would be 'safe' for the prisoners these days.

a bit of a bugger whoever this cheapskate is nicking trees. thing is under the kowhai project they prob could've gotten some free trees anyway as the idea is to plant as many as can be. wasn't easy trying to establish trees in such shite ground thats full of boulders, bedrock and sluicings. plus the rabbits and possums. at least the endless rain is a help. for the trees not the mining.

Feel for ya mate, at our last place we planted $650 worth of ornamentals down the drive.
48Hrs later, they'd gone!!!!
(We didn't replace them, although I toyed with an idea using VERY large capacitors that would've removed the hands of the next perp.... )

In your case, Kowhai? Hardly worth the effort I would think...

that's a great idea to throw speargrass in there but i don't think its high enough altitude for it to grow. most spear grass is a bit higher up the hillside.

I bought it from a local nursery that has a lot of native plants.

thanks. i've only seen them here up in the tussock country. some on ben lomond, prob the closest to here, about 1500 metres up i guess. if i found a small one not the sort of thing i would want to collect and put in my bag. think i fell on one once. walking through thick patches sure isn't a walk in the park either.
