I bought my deus overseas, cost me $500 less than what I could of bought it here for in nz and that was after shipping and gst. Your best bet when buying overseas is contact the seller first and ask if they will say the item is second hand or lower drastically the declared amount the detector is worth so it saves you gst at customs.. I know when they declared the value of my deus at $500 plus like $89 shipping then they still charged like $150 gst.. I think $400 or something is the threshhold before they start charging gst.

KellyCo seems to often be mentioned online (both good and bad), and if you can get free shipping within the US, have a look at NZ Posts' forwarding service, YouShop, which gives you a 'personal' US address
Link

Be aware that if the goods have a lower than actual declared value, you have to accept the risk in case it is damaged in transit.
I lost out on $1,200 when some gear was damaged (as in having a forklift tine through it!) as I asked the US to ship at a lower value. Insurance only covered the declared amount -"Once bitten"...

You will also lose any warranty service in NZ (and something like a MD, I suspect the cost of freight to and from the States would far outweigh any savings made)

GST will be taxed as its over $400 (they include shipping in that value BTW).

I have found that most overseas retailers won't ship with it listed as "Gift" either, as if it's selected for inspection, they carry the can.

Thanks I've got a youshop account so handy but heaps of stuff from the US I've never been hit with import fees before brought quite a bit of stuff over $400 too but knowing my luck I will with a new detector there's quite a few that offer free shipping in the US I'm keeping my eye on a few keen as on waterproof gold detector!

Absolutely correct. I agree with all of the above. I have reciently used YouShop and it works a treat.
My one and only experience with Kellyco, was not great (felt like just a number in the vastness of e-space!) so switched to colonialmetaldetectors.com and have had nothing but great deals and service. Personally, I would highly recommend them.

Of the 3 times I have dealt with Kellyco I haven't had a problem. The easiest way to deal with them is to email the international sales person direct instead of trying to order via their website, previous posts have have usable email addresses for the right person. But forget their "bonus gifts" as the majority of these are just junk.

I've had warrenty claims with both Garrett USA and Whites and haven't had any problems with them because of being located in NZ. Costs of freight were only $50 for Garrett (whole detector) and free for Whites (coil sent over).
