After spending a few months learning how to pan and sluice in the Britanna area, me and my mate Titan decided it was time to branch out a little bit and hit some other places. After some quick internet research (ie paydirt), we headed off on our first adventure up the Waimang for a play. Got permission from one claim owner and tried our luck there. Although the Waimang and Britanna is only seperated by a ridge, the type of gold found is vastly different. The Waimang gold was a lot bigger in size but you really had to go looking for it. The second time we went there, we took a small 1" dredge with us, that only lasted 10 minutes before the jet nozzle blew clean out. Lucky we only had borrowed it and gave the owner a bit of shit for doing a dodgy job on it! We took it out again for the 3rd time only to have a pipe broken on us! No back ups for us! A fast learning curve for us about taking spare parts.
At a party where alcohol had loosen a few tongues, we found there was gold to be found in the creeks flowing into the Buller River. After making sure there wasn't any claims on the creeks, we went and explored the area, sure enough at spot x, we found some gold, not enough to get rich, but enough to have fun panning and sluicing. We have had a few fun days there but wanting to go to other areas.
We planned an overnight stay at the Lyell camp and used it as a base. We got there early and set up camp, then off to river to find some colour. the first 700metres looked to me hammered so we kept going until we found a likely spot.Titan quickly found a crack that looked liked it hadnt been touched, and sure enough he was pulling pan after pan from it.....bloody tin arse! As for myself I found a bit of color in a small overhang and sluiced for all that I was worth. Got back to camp and starting cooking some tea when we noticed a guy coming out from the track loaded with metal detector and gold equipment. After a few beers we got enough courage to go over and have a chat. We quickly found him to be one of the good guys. Got talking about gold (what else) and found that he had been around a bit, especially around the Blackball area. So we had found our next place at Moonlight Creek, once my fingers recover from writing this novel, I'll write about that adventure!

Alrighty, am in bed groaning and complaining off an overused back from panning, shovelling and sluicing, I thought I'd better keep putting the holidays adventures on here.
Moonlight, that's was what our new friend had told us. A creek on the arse end of Blackball. Sounded like a great plan. We got sorted for an overnight trip and headed off to this new creek that we had never been to. After just bout missing the turnoff (friggin gps was useless!), we turned down Moonlight Creek road and took a gravel road to the end where there was a good place for the tent and a good amount if parking for the limo. Got our gear out and went for a play. Dropped into the river and starting test panning everything in sight. Got some good colour in a small hole, so shovelled 3 buckets out and ran them down the sluice. Got enough to keep me happy. Titan meanwhile was a little more upstream attacking a rocky outcropping that had heaps of cracks in it. Again he pulled pan after pan of great colour from these cracks. We made a estimate that he panned at least 30 pans from here, needless to say his wrists were aching the next day. After lunch we decided to leave this spot and headed upstream for a look. We spotting a guy across the river digging a massive hole with a shovel, must've been at least 3 metres square, what a legend! Carried on to Swing bridge and had a play here. Some alright colour here as well. As we were heading back to the bridge, Titan says to me "bro, look what I've found". He reaches into the river and pulls out a G-Shock watch, still going and in perfect condition. Lucky as we had forgotten to bring a watch and found it was getting close to tea time. Got back to camp and had some tugger, then headed back out to our first possy to have a better look. Still coming up with colour, we had a great couple of hours. Next day, we spent a few hours prospecting and having a look for new spots for next time the wife lets me out!
Next post will be on Slab Hut Creek near Reefton.

Yes Yes there little RoacheyRed, far to much homo erotic innuendo for me. And you asked me to come camping with you.
Word on the wharf is that a rafting trip down the Cahulawassee River before its flooded could interesting.
