Ha! i hate to break it to ya but most lead comes in as a high signal and gold is low signal. Gold is a low signal, almost the same as all pulltabs off cans, and some larger rusty irons. Most detectorists (or me anyway) get to know a lot of ID ranges after digging the first 2 or 3 thousand pulltabs (all my detecting so far has been in old parks, showgrounds etc for coins and relics)

in saying that I still get trapped as the treaure hunter in me can simply NOT leave a signal in the ground, just in case...I have actually dug unfired and fired old slugs from 1850's enfield rifles...same bullets that were used in the maori wars etc..unlike most lead these ones sit in my treasure chest :)

Graeme the reason ya hilux stops at intersections is called brakes hahaa something an old landy would struggle with after a dip through the water :):) GO HILUX! :)
In my Lada niva days we used chip bags on the dizzy! ahhhh the good ol la de daaa days

Good trick alright tho...I like the way ya think!

Its the engine that stops...cuts out...dies...carks it...and it sometimes does it on restarting when you put it in gear.
My son has one of them Lada things - its parked in the shed with my Landrover - It is an amazing thing and we use it with chains on all four wheels to get to the bottom of my place but I make everyone walk in a couple of spots as it slides sideways even with chains on in one spot.
I got one of those shooters that fires the bullets you speak of.
I dont know about the difference in signals but there must be enough lead on my place to confuse the most experienced of experts - I am just going to confer with my son on that one. I would imagine that iron sands in the Arrow is nothing compared with lead on my place!!!

Lammerlaw, your son told me that basically a small piece of lead sounds like a large nugget. Ive found with my detector, which has an LCD displaty that shows numbers depending on the item detected, that lead comes up at a similar sort of number but is a much stronger signal so you sort of have to dig all of them.
And now....On sandy beaches and muddy soil, rings and coins await my coil!

Oh and Madsonicboating ive found a few of the bullets you speak of too. Might get Lammerlaw to have a look at them. Like your videos by the way, i was out detecting last night in a park got 8 silver coins one of which was an 1896 threepence in pretty good nick.

I really dont know Matt but he seems to know a bit more than I do and can sure in hell find a lot more than me so I guess he will be right..Im buggered if I know why I bought that blasted detector - its a crazy thing for a deaf bloke to buy a detector and kinds stupid for a bloke who expects instant miracles and suffers from adult ADHD to even turn it on!
I assume that on my place if you dug every sound like a nugget you would end up making the place look as though every pig in creation had been rooting there and a fortune in spent lead!

Thanks man...it was kinda embarrassing to make videos for a start but from them I have made many mates from around the world and it's also a good kind of "live" diary of my adventures. 8 silvers is good. untill recently my highest in one day was 6 but then the Timaru showgrounds have produced 2 days of 9 and last Sunday I found a massive 20 silvers!! I'm confident I will find some gold jewellery there too fingers arms n legs crossed!!

Untill they do it and see it with own eyes, most people have no idea on how much stuff people have dropped and lost in the last 150 years!

interesting what you say about gold coming in at same as lead...all my lead on the F2 is between 47/54. I have only gold rings to test my machine on and the higest I have is 18ct and it's solid 45 on the ID range. Me thinks I need a nugget to practise on :) Damn every time I read the forums on this site I want to jump in truck and drive south! I'm on call tonight in my cabs so won;t finish til 4am...hmmm would be a good time to leave then and drive to Danseys cept I'd be to bloody tired to do anything when I got there! Maybe Monday!! I hve a tiny 4" coil to try on the gold fields so hopefully using that I can scan AROUND lammerlaws lead bullets LOL

Lammerlaw...if we find your bullets will you swap the weight in gold for em hahaaa hmmmm don't answer that I think I know what you will say and there may be kids reading these forums!!

Haha youre probably right, going on what i have gathered you like to put a bit of lead in the air! With those Minelabs i think it takes a fair bit to learn all the ins and outs of what all the knobs and dials do. If your hearing is up to scratch and you take the time to learn how to use them they sure work! At least if your name is David that is! I got a gold detector recently, actually last friday, almost half paid for itself already. Just goes to prove that as you say there is still gold there to be found.

Just to put your mind at ease somewhat my detector was just 800 bucks so its not like im getting rich. Its good fun tho but not much good for parks its too good really which is the problem it gets bloody everything. Damn near got blisters from digging all the crap. Ive got a 9ct ring and it doesnt pick up the same as gold. Nuggets come in at below 30, the closer you get the lower the number gets. I was in a stream today which was full of basalt which the detector picks up and comes up with a number of around 80. I got 2 small bits of gold there but i dont think il go back the 1000's of hot rocks drove me mad.

Now that the topic has changed to metal detectors I might add that if my old Garret had the same power as my Minelab then I would take the Garret a thousand times over as the noise it makes is far more conducive to me having success. Maybe it is what one is used to but the Minelab is far harder for me to determine the signal while the Garret is a very definitive response.

Yes I hear minelabs have something like 90 different sounds is that correct? But I hear they are the goods when it comes to finding targets and up to 15" easily!

Sorry for hijacking the topic :) If's it any consellation even tho the detectors have come up..it's 5am lol i have just finished work and damn it I'm STILL thinking about that "handful of dirt" :) That photo of your gold makes 40% of me want to just stay up and drive to danseys...the other 60% is saying "ya too damn old now get to bed!"

Ah but are you as old as I am? - and I am just heading up country in ten minutes with my son to try a new spot - well a spot I knew of many years ago and now wish to show him.
Besides you are never too old for anything - my father who was in the army by 1942 just bought himself a new shotgun last year - mind you he is a bit of a worry as he was just about to bring down some ducks which I had to inform him were seagulls and he was about to put one of my leather boots on one hoof and one of his rubber ones on the other...but he dont think hes too old!

If seagulls are anything like Muttonbirds then I would go gaa gaa over them and they would be extinct within a short time!

I guess you will be a chicken compared with an old rooster like me - I aint as tough as I used to be either so I found today as I got caught out in heavy rain which turned to snow and I havent thawed out yet!
