Great if they get the pricing right.

Can the CTX be used for small gold with a different coil?

had a quick glance at the minelab page. good to see they know how to proofread. was a bit taken aback when i glanced at it and saw it was waterproof to 3 feet lol. obviously meant to be 3 metres.

Shaggy the CTX3030 has 3 coils available.
The 11" is standard with the machine and a 6" and 17" are available as an accessory.

Here is a link to more info on the 6" which I suspect would be pretty good on small gold.

PS: You could also click through to the coil selection guide to page 4 where the three sizes are listed together.

Hey guys, I looked at a new SDF 2300 yesterday and it looked like a very well built machine and thinking of buying one. Iv never owned or used a detector befor and was wondering if this would be a good one for a beginner to buy.
Any help would be much appreciated, thanks. The thing that amazed me most about this detector was the folded down size if it, would be great for a tramp into the hills somewhere, and no one would even know you had any mining gear.

Giddday Goldgrab.

I've just spent the afternoon watching a number of videos and reading up as much as I can about this machine. It's a fair bit of coin to part with if you don't know whether or not detecting will be your thing.

I see your town is Christchurch so you will always have a reasonable distance to travel to get to the goldfields. As the detector has no discrimination, for all intents and purposes, you will need to dig all targets. You can consider it to be a gold detector, not really the best for looking in parks.

So, spend time looking and reading. Decide what you actually will use the detector for. If you do decide on the SDC 2300, Chris at DETECTNZ will be really hard to beat for a good price.

Thanks gjj109

I picked up one of these units yesterday from Skylab chch at a very good price and so far am very happy with it. I do think minelab detectors are a bit pricy and yes I am aware that this is a gold detector only. I set it up in a park last night ( very easy) and was getting strong signals very often from junk I'd amagine. Can't wait to get to some goldfields and grab some gold.
Could anyone recommend a good book to for a beginner detectorist..?
Any help would be appreciated

Hi there gold grab 2000!

Any idea the depth you can hit a 1 dollar coin at with the machine in dirt or sand. Also air. Can you check for us? Or a standard size gold band....

I havint done any digging with this unit yet but have done an air test with one dollar coin, was still getting a strong signal it around 200mm away with sensitivity set to normal setting two.
Just keep in mind that I am a beginner with no detector experience at all, so you may want to ask someone more knowledge on the unit.
There is a few videos on YouTube you could watch. Thanks

Was the price 3890??? Just interested in the effective range of the machine as it seems to he design so get everything in the first 100mm. Smaller bits - ie small gold.

HI again gold grab. Have you managed to get the detector out and tried? Any idea of depth in ground, say for a 1 dollar coin in soil. Just interested to see if it can reach "bigger" targets deeper.....

Sorry havint really had a good go with this unit yet. Have found a bit of junk today (two .22 shells, some wire, and some lead shot and a washer). Just tried to find the moonlight creek fossicking area about an hour ago however large tree across road and don't have chainsaw..bugger..!!
Does anyone know how often Doc clears this road..? May try again in a few days. Off to waimea creek now camping in van and will see how I go tomorrow. Not sure if this area is any good for detecting but have a small sluice also.

Hey DMNZ

I buried a one dollar coin today and was getting a signal at around 250 to 280mm

didint have a ruler sorry but just measured it on my pick

It was in damp sand and had it on setting salt 1 then tried salt 2 and 3 and was getting a stronger signal

Some other items i found on Sumner beach today are as follows

24,034,000 hairclips
8,000,000 beer bottle tops
one paper clip...?
300,000 nails
76,984 pieces of wire
1 one dollar coin witch i used to do the range test.

Is 250mm+ a good range for a detector like this..?

Thanks
