I've been using an old sheath knife and a sturdy Warehouse trowel to dig plugs for the past couple of years. It's hard work in the kikuyu grass and clay. I thought I'd shout myself a Lesche, but couldn't decide whether it should be a left or right. Solved the problem by getting the young fella to send one of each out from the States.

Went out to a spot I hadn't been to before. The clay was like a brick and it's starting to crack. The Lesche doesn't make a neater job than the knife, but the knife wouldn't have done the job in this ground. The Lesche requires far less effort. I'm pleased I got one. Left or right?. It makes no difference the way I use it.

Anyway, found these few coins. 11 silvers were a pleasant surprise. 13 pennies and 3 halfpennies all between 1896 and 1925 with nothing more recent than that. 74 assorted decimals and a couple of shillings.

And the surprise of the day was this well-dressed pig in top hat and tails.

Popped out to this spot again yesterday afternoon for two and a half hours.

Found 32 coins, which wasn't spectacular, but 9 were silvers including a 1918 half crown. That's not a bad ratio.

Popped out for a scratch in the park after Lusi dropped a few inches of rain to soften the soil and keep the dust down.

Usual assortment of 50's pennies and copper decimals.

Did manage to score this tractor which is in good nick with all the wheels revolving. (Obviously a Nuffield because of the colour) Also a little silver ring with a couple of dolphins.

Good to get the tractor in running condition! That's pretty hard to do- usually wheels are gone or busted!
There's another to find and I'm gunna find it!

There have been some really good posts and some great finds from around the country. It's always interesting to see what turns up. Inspires one to get out and have a go although the gold rings and sovereigns seem fairly sparse in this part of Godzone.

I manage to get out and about at least once a week and have three places I tend to return to. One has an assortment of everything, the second is full of 1 and 2 cent pieces and the third seems to have it's share of silvers and very little rubbish.

Went out twice last week. The first trip was 16 coins including 7 silvers.

UserPostedImage

The second trip was 22 coins including 9 silvers. For the first time, I managed to get the whole set in a day. I've come close a few times but this was a first. Particularly pleased to get the Queen Vic half crown, even if it is pretty crappy. That's 38 coins with 16 silvers, or 42%.

Hi Roy, it's a minelab I am using, only goes up to 48 which I will use as an excuse for the absence of sovereigns.

Popped back to the paddock for a couple of hours yesterday and dragged up 9 little silvers and 22 other coins, for a silver percentage of 29%.

UserPostedImage

Also found this skull ring. Prior to the invention of cell phones, it was every lads must have item. Made from genuine muckmetal and available with different coloured eyes for the discerning young gentleman.

There's been a bit of rain around lately but managed to get back to the paddock for a couple of hours between showers in the middle of last week.

I was really keen to follow Roy 's helpful advice. Thanks to that I managed to snag half a dozen of those elusive pull tabs. I couldn't seem to locate the really deep ones though as nothing in this place seems to be more than about 4 inches deep.

UserPostedImage

As the pull tabs seemed to be in short supply, I found these few coins, including the six little silvers, for 32% silver.

Nice silvers, is that an old blue wing Honda badge? It just looks a bit different to the ones I remember, or is it something else.

The last few times I've been out have resulted in not much of interest; plenty of coins but nothing too flash.

Went out yesterday to a spot that always seems to have a bit of everything and that still holds true.

Found this essential item of bedroom wear; a small silver polo badge with ribbon still attached and a nice little 18ct sparkler.
