Hey guys,

Was playing around on the GIS viewer today and noticed Glen Eden Primary School hasn't changed in aerial maps since at least the 1940's so on my way past today I stopped in at the office to ask permission to hunt the grounds.

Turns out in the last week a detectorist has been there digging holes.. badly apparently "V shaped holes" and also holes they weren't filling in. They had no permission, left a mess and worst of all a little primary school kid tripped in one last week and broke their ankle/leg (I forgot which).

Nice one for f*kin it up for me getting permission to dig and injuring a little kid.

Thanks for posting DJ.
Bad news on several levels. I hope the child is recovering well.

It would also be good to have a chat to the dectectorist involved about how to dig plugs
and where permission is required so hopefully we dont get any repeats.

just give it a year... let things settle... and then check again... I usually do a test recovery for them so that they can see what is involved and how there is no damage left afterwards...

Is there any worth in setting up some sort of national 'affiliation' that serious MDs can use to give some credibility in these situations and distance ourselves from the cowboys?

???? A school is not a public area like a park or a beach etc.

All schools should be out of bounds unless permission is received from the principal and caretaker. If they have a record of who can detect on the grounds then they will know if somebody has done any damage and be able to take action. Unfortunately the people who are likely to cause damage to schools are the ones that wouldn't bother with permission.

I thought of that too... maybe like "master detectors" or something like that... similar to master builders...

And this is the time of year where you need to start thinking about how long it will take the grass to recover, considering lack of rain.

Around about now is when I carry a 3 litre orange juice bottle with me and hunt close to the Avon river, so I can refill it from the river and soak the plugs once I've stomped them back into the ground. Gives you extra brownie points with the tutt-tutt brigade who are always out in force during the summer months.

Might have to!

My F75 is falsing a lot, it was fine one day, then the next time I used it it wasn't.

I suspect my son probably stomped on the coil while playing.

I need to find someone else with an F75 in CHCH that I can swap coils with to see if that's where the problem is. :^(

Would be a tough one to enforce . Then we would need a voice to stand up for those wrongly/writely convicted.

Oroplata,

I can mail you a coil to test with if you don't find one closer.

Thanks! I can't remember if any of the other lads in CHCH run an F75.

The coil is specific to the F75 too, I'm guessing.

The F75 only shares coils with the F70. I have a 15" coil so could loan you the 11" if you don't come up with something closer.
