hey folks. I found this small piece of gold, just half a gram but quite pretty.
Also found this dredge in the bush again. First saw it 3 years ago in the same position and location ie. it hasnt moved.
Does anybody recognise it? Was thinking about giving it a tidy up getting it going and using it. But keep it stored in the same spot, that way its not stolen? Its not near a claim either.
In its current state its just going to fall to bits.

I'd say that if it's been there for three years and hasn't moved, and looking at the state it's in, i'd say abandoned mate. Good to see that your doing the right thing by checking tho.

Nice little nuggy too. :)

Nice find. And im sure if the owner came back one day im sure he would be happy that it got looked after . Has it been placed there by flood ? Is there a tool box near by or anything with name on it

the dredge is chained to a tree so wasn't washed there by a flood. I might as an old guy who lives up the valley if he knows anything. If not I might get the old girl going again.

Hi Hatter,
I know the dredge you have found,

I came across it in December 2010 after the big flood, the two guys that live in the house opposite to were the dredge recounds that it belongs to the old claim holder who dredged very rearly, he has not been back for some time,

I had the same idear as you, if it is left anylonger there will be not much left of it,

You would check with crowns and minerals to see who the last claim holder was, try to make contact if you can, if no joy i say go for it
Cheers Steve

does it start?

strange how there is no cover on it. maybe they went for fuel and the weather changed or something and they didn't make it back.

it looks well chained up and secured though so someone at some point must have had intentions of coming back. maybe they weren't keen to haul it back out of the bush.

it might have been someone local or a weekender doing it on the sly also.

I went back to dredge today and imagine my surprise when somebody had taken sluice box inserts power jets and jet flare along with a weight belt!!
Also a nearby tool chest had been opened and the contents unceremoniously dumped around (something I'm sure the owner of the gear wouldn't do!). I think in future I will not be posting about such matters. At least I had the courtesy of attempting to locate the owner. Which I did by phoning the most recent claim holder in that location and via this forum as well as privately asking around.

From a not impressed Hatter

That really sucks to hear that Hatter, and you were trying to do the right thing too. It just shows you how low some people will go eh. At least you can have a clear conscience on this, which is more that can be said about the other person.

yeah it does suck. I have just bought a Honda 6.5hp and a keene P180 pump to replace the motor on the dredge. looks like il be needing a power jet and jet flare too

You had better hope i never catch you interfering/taking anything i know doesnt belong to.you or by christ you will regret it.
Sorry to hear that Mat.

yeah it was up the Wakamarina, the items could have been taken by their owner but I doubt this as the owner wouldn't leave his tools sitting about outside his tool chest. Speculation I know but it would be a remarkable coincidence. More likely somebody read this post and knew where the dredge is and thought theyd help themselves.

Damn shame that some thieving scum can actually read. They don't realize though that they are spoiling their own country.
Then then they must live with knowing that they are thieving low life scum. This lowers their own self image and also attracts bad karma. NUGGY

Yeah i've heard that the waka has been done to death, but there's heaps of side creeks that could be worth a go. :)
