Yeah mate, not only do we have to steer clear of places owned by the historic places trust but we also have to be wary of listed heritage sites. Heritage sites in the Auckland area can be checked out on the Auckland city web site or by talking to someone from district planning. Some places are listed heritage sites because they have archeological or geological features that you cant even see so it pays to ask first dig later.
