whats everyones plans for the long weekend. anyone planing a day hunt or a weekend fossick?

i am thinking bout heading to the westcoast for a day mabey a night if i can find some cheap accomadation or can be botherd packing up the camping gear. i suppose winter was the wrong time to get gold fever but im hooked ,stuff the cold ill just have to dig harde to keep warm

Great sentiments - I love it! Cheap accomodation - I remember about five years ago my entire family was charged $20 per night for the back packer units at the big old pub opposite the 'goldfish pond' down at Ross - that was the good news - the bad news was that the gold was a bit scarce!

I used to work winter diving at up to 2700 foot altitude - snow drifts on the bank and ice on the water - I cant even imagine it now.

You could always just go freedom camping....mite wana take a bucket with you just incase...else you could get a fine !!!

I think I'll be swinging the detector, i've got some unfinsihed business on an old patch....ye ha!!

Dont think I have to worry where I'm dumping 'GBM' I will be home each night

yea its not to cold at the moment its more the missus that fells the cold haha.

unfinished business i like the sound of that.
i need to find a good spot first so i can get some business

hopefully this weekend will be able to try a few places and find a spot

hi guys
i went for a dredge today water wasnt tooo bad but i had waders on! so cheating a wee bit i gess though as it turnd out i was wishing i at least had my wetsuit top on as my seemly shallow bed rock area dissaperd a good meter or more under the water bit of a fail,d mish really as i could,nt quite get to the good stuff :(

ahh your own claim thats awsome.would love to get my own claim in a few years once my house is finished and sold.

how long have you had your claim for and is i a hobbie for you or a fulltime venture?

Yea it,s pretty cool i dont have to look over my sholder so much these days...except for the odd spy or poacher gota keep an eye out for them thats why i take my blood hound,s with me..!!
Im not to shure my self weather its full time or hobbie...it,s close to a 50/50 split of work and gold stuff though after a few cold mornings of getting into a cold wet wetsuit it,s kinda work like...nar!!
have you found any color yet..?

ahh the trusty dog eh mans best freind.

sounds great if you love doing something it can never be work in my opinion.

no colour yet took my gear out last weekend to test run it all, not really seriously hunting just runnig a few buckets threw my sluice seting up the riffles and so on.also test my home made crevice sucker.

but this weekend will head over to the coast and give it a good nudge

so how do you get a claim?
i've always had the impression that the coast is pretty much sewn up as regards to claims (assuming you're on the coast).
and while we're talking about it, is there anywhere you can fossick outside of the DOC public areas without being arrested/shot?
