Just starting!! - New to metal detecting

I don't think its silver, who knows and from what i can read from the back of the medallion its some kind of award. The coins are 2 half pennies, penny and the weird medallion. I broke my digging tool today, it had been highly modified i think these mods where the reason!!! Happy digging!!! : )

Heres a pic of my digging tool i broke yesturday (notice the serrations i cut in the sides) this is the cause. It was awesome until that happened. I had one of those gator diggers but left it at a beach and never saw it again :(... We aucklanders should get together and get a special permission for some of those "I wish I could hunt there!" spots.

I have a pic somewhere of it. .
