Promo video has just been released for the new Garrett ATX PI detector.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZQEubb0LmY

I like! Right up there on top of my wishlist since I've been looking at getting a PI detector and this one ticks almost all the boxes. Price is unknown but guess it will be around the $1500-$2000NZD mark. Hopefully it can handle these west coast black sand beaches.....

Looks like it was put together in the back of a plumbers van on his day off and then acquired by someone with the obsession of painting everything military-green..

But, all that aside.. I kinda like the look of it, and it packs up so small too!

Once pricing and what-not comes along maybe I'll have a goal for my 'next machine' it might be tempting..

Related question, is a PI machine (like this) still suitable for coin shooting / park hunting?

It looks like it was based around their military detectors which have a very similar fold up action and cams on the shaft - probably didn't want to change plastics and molds thus the military green.

Being Garrett I doubt they will take Minelabs lead and overprice since Garrett seem to try to sell quantity instead of expensive models. It but it still won't be cheap.

10gic, simple answer is NO a PI is not suitable for park hunting.
Long answer is that a PI's main advantage is depth and ability to handle mineralisation as these qualities leave the VLF detectors in its dust. But the trade off is a lack of discrimination - some models like this ATX can notify if the target is iron or not but this isn't reliable and it can't be "notched" out. Because of this and the depth it detects using one in a park will mean a lot of very deep holes to only find bits or iron. But on a beach which isn't very trashy they can shine, and of course when nugget hunting.

Ahh well, if this pricing is anything to go by then I think I'll keep dreaming of joining the CTX3030 club.

Yup, $2495USD is looking like the standard recommended price. But it's still up at the top of "My Want" list despite the higher then normal pricing.

Don't compare it to a CTX as they are 2 very different machines and could complement each other. Because of the PI's depth on a sanded in beach the ATX will find targets the CTX never knew was there. But throw a bit of trash around and the ATX would have you pulling your hair out. Best to aim for both in your arsenal!

If I win lotto a CTX is one of the top items on my list.. They seem like the ideal machine for my hunting style and desire, can go paddling at the beach or find silver in the park!

If I don't win lotto, maybe I'll keep looking at an AT Pro.

Just wait for the ATX 'CE' addition be out in a few months for 1/2 the price, might look the part but may not go as deep
Yes I'm tugging your chain the 'CE' was for Chinese Edition.

Seriously though - Garrett has done me well so far! Hmmmm now really how much do I need my Commodore?!?!

But it comes with its own shoulder strap swing thing! Andy, just think of all the rings you could find with it in the Creek! :) Actually a PI would drive you nuts in the hair clip and bottle top freshwater hole like that one.

Give me a reminder in a month or 2 if your finances allow as I'm thinking of selling the AT since I won't get to use it in Kawhia (still haven't unpacked either detector to even hunt the camp grounds!). Because of its age and condition the price will be less then you would expect.
