hi all in nz,after a big blow yesterday i went down to the beach after work about one hour after low tide nice big cut about 18 inches deep found nice 18ct ring hallmarked 18ct plat but has the colour of gold alas the big stone that was set in it was missing, looks like its been there a long time also a weird engraved think silver ring also looks quite old.good luck all. me thinks its plated 18ct allmost but not quite

"Plat" stands for platinum, thus the ring has a 18ct band and it looks like a platinum setting. They often use platinum or a similar silver coloured metal on a setting as a good highlight background for a diamond.

Give it a quick zap with electrolysis and it will clean up very nicely.
